In rare cases it is the method used to rationalize a decision that they are not happy about having to make, but know that no other decision is reasonable. &quot;Do I spend $1500 for a test that might lead to a $4000 treatment to extend the life of my dog by 1 week, or?&quot; &quot;He&#039;s just a dog.&quot; but in that case the emotion is there in the realization that $5500 for an added week of experience is not a win. 

Most cases are signs of a lack of empathy, and a sign of someone who either may not be worthy of being called a friend. If they realize that for you there is something more going on than they see initially, they may be worthy of a second chance, but...</description>
